Dürnstein is currently faced with the problem of very large numbers of visitors flowing into the historic town centre at certain times. This causes considerable inconvenience for local residents. The aim is distribute visitor streams better with a plan for structural measures at and around car park P1.

Open space design is one of the topics that is being addressed by Donau Niederösterreich Tourismus GmbH and a range of specialists in order to take the strain off the population. Specifically, a plan including project submission should be created for car park P1. This area should function as an efficient and attractive meeting and distribution point for cycle, bus and boat tourists and invite guests to stay a while.

In collaboration with a planning company, all necessary phases from project preparation to the submission documents and a cost estimate for the redesign of car park P1 should be created. The key point here is to consider the tourists and the needs of local residents. Impetus should also be given with regard to tourist nodes along the towpath between car park P3 and car park P1.
