World Heritage Volunteers Wachau-Middle Rhine

Since 2004, an intensive exchange has been taking place between the two World Heritage cultural landscapes of the Wachau in Austria and the Upper Middle Rhine Valley in Germany. The cooperation should now be further intensified by a joint volunteer camp with a focus on caring for the cultural landscape.

Kulinarische "Genussangebote" sind in der Wachau derzeit meist limitiert verfügbar bzw. für die Gäste oftmals sehr schwierig zu konsumieren. Vor allem die Koordination und das Kombinieren mehrerer Angebote ist für die regionalen AnbieterInnen (GastronomInnen, ProduzentInnen) schwer realisierbar. Kulinarik-ExpertInnen sollen das Angebot optimieren und stärken.

With the help of the Wachau Zones, development plans are elaborated which simplify dealing with historic buildings in line with World Heritage requirements.

The Fourth Wall – Seekopf Lookout Tower

The Seekopf and the Hirschwand belong to the World Heritage Trail and together form a popular excursion destination that is highly rated by hikers. A lookout tower affords a phenomenal 360-degree view. The prior existing tower was already over 25 years old and was showing signs of rotting, so it had to be demolished for safety reasons. The association "Jankerlklub Rossatz" and the market municipality of Rossatz-Arnsdorf worked on the construction of a new tower in order to continue being able to offer the rewarding view of the Wachau.

There are already several audio guides in the Wachau which are offered by various platforms and operators. What has been missing so far is a collated presentation of all audio guides in the region. The offer will now be presented as a bundle and include a range of new audio guides.

Presenting the women of the Wachau-Dunkelsteinerwald region

Young women living in rural areas overwhelmingly underestimate their personal opportunities for the future compared to those living in urban areas. This is resulting in a brain-drain of well-educated women. This project is intended to highlight how modern and diverse the situation for women can be in rural areas and what opportunities for the future are on offer in the Wachau-Dunkelsteinerwald region.

Dunkelsteinerwald school project - implementation

In the future, there should be stronger focus on topics related to the Dunkelsteinerwald in lessons at the region’s primary schools. Teaching staff worked on how to achieve this in an initial project, the results of which are now being implemented in another LEADER project.
